Theme Park Thursday

Updated: Apr 7, 2022

We are starting a new blog series! Every Thursday we will feature 1 attraction, 1shop, and 1 restaurant. at a Disney theme park. Suggestions are encouraged as there are so many wonderful attractions and experiences to showcase.

So without further ado.... for our very first Theme Park Thursday let's begin with Magic Kingdom!!

"It's a Small World" - Back when we were kids visiting Disney World with our families, "It's a Small World" was one of those rides you laughed about and fought your parents on riding, but would ultimately always end up doing it. There was never a wait time and regardless of the seemingly never ending song that would always stay stuck in your head, the cool (air conditioning, not the creepy little kids singing at you) air was a welcome respite from the Florida hot sun. Now that we are moms, we have a littttttle more appreciation for the ride. Especially the costumes and the theming, and after all it is one of the first rides of Magic Kingdom. But it was still shocking to be at Disney World this past month and see hour long wait times posted for Small World. We did several double takes. The line was spilling out into Fantasy Land and we considered asking people in line if they knew what ride was awaiting them. An hour??? For Small World?? To be fair it was an unusually crowded day and everything had longer wait times, but that is absolutely the longest we have ever seen the line for "It's a Small World." We refuse to use Genie plus on Small World and we also refuse to wait in a line for it longer than twenty minutes. In our opinion, it's just not worth that kind of wait. HOWEVER, if you are a first time visitor of Disney World then perhaps it may be worth it for you. The song might stay in your head for the rest of the day, but seeing all the little children of the world singing while you watch on a gentle boat ride is definitely an experience. Older children would probably rather sit this one out, but it is always a hit with younger kids. Even your baby can ride, it is that gentle, and they will probably be highly entertained by the colors, animatronics, and music.

Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe - Who doesn't love Christmas? Our absolute favorite time of the year to visit Disney World is during the Christmas holiday season. There is something extra magical about a Disney Christmas, so it's no wonder we chose Ye Old Christmas Shoppe as our first featured shop for Theme Park Thursday. You can find this hidden gem of a store in Liberty Square. We always peek into this merry shop every visit to see the Christmas ornaments and goodies. On our most recent trip we chose to have several ornaments personalized with our kids' names on them. The lovely cast members will personalize most anything, and you just return in a few hours to pick-up. We find ornaments to be a great souvenir to commemorate our Disney trips, and they also make for great gifts for loved ones back home. If you agree then you should definitely take a look inside Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe on your next visit to Magic Kingdom.

Sunshine Tree Terrace - WE LOVE DOLE WHIP! Sunshine Tree Terrace is a quick service stand in Adventureland that serves both classic and remixed versions of DOLE Whip. Unless you've been living under a rock, then we assume you know about the special Disney treat of pineapple flavored soft serve ice cream. But did you know DOLE Whip is dairy free?? As much as we hate to admit it, we are reaching that age as moms where we can only handle so much dairy, but dairy free ice cream is usually gross. Not DOLE Whip. It is DOLEicious. Sorry, we couldn't resist. Sunshine Tree Terrace is our favorite spot to indulge in our favorite Disney treat. If you are visiting Disney during the 50th Anniversary then you must try the I LAVA You Float. Fanta Strawberry Soda and Passion Fruit flavor served with DOLE Whip Orange and topped with Popping Candy. MMM we are ready to head back to Disney just thinking about it. The Fanta Orange Float is an amazing choice, too. Who are we kidding? Everything at Sunshine Tree Terrace is perfection. Do not skip out on this DOLE Whip spot when you visit Magic Kingdom!

What should we feature next week for Theme Park Thursday? We'd love to hear your suggestions!
